The FM30 is JCB Groundcare's first ever out front mower. Purpose built for specialist grounds maintenance applications, this brand new model combines JCB's considerable experience in grounds care with what our customers tell us they're looking for in this type of machine. The result is a mower that actually helps to reduce costs and improve performance on a wide variety of mowing applications.
The FM30 is rugged, productive and extremely versatile. Powered by a low-vibration, low-noise and low-emission engine, it's also cost effective, reliable and provides day-long comfort for the operator. And it's available with a choice of easily interchangeable rotary or twin flail cutting decks.
At the heart of the machine’s unrivalled performance is the innovative and exclusive 1.4m twin flail deck. The front hammer flails cut the grass, leaving a superior finish that would rival most rotary decks, and the rear dovetail flails re-process the grass into a very fine mulch. This provides a deck that can be used in all traditional flail areas, such as banking and verges, but also on areas that have, until recently, Increased productivity, reduced costs been the domain of rotary and cylinder units.
The flail deck also features a full-width anti-scalp roller which protects the surface and gives that British stripe effect. During tests comparing the FM30’s twin-flail system to rotary decks, the JCB model was found to cut up to 30% quicker than a 60" rotary equivalent. There is no need for collection of clippings as the mulch produced is extremely fine and the rear flail rotor forces it back into the sward, making the clippings virtually disappear. The fine mulch produced also decomposes faster, returning nutrients to the ground and promoting healthier grass.
The multipurpose FM30 successfully cuts or mulches anything from sports pitches to brush, so one machine, one operator and one attachment can handle a wide variety of grounds maintenance tasks. From the outset the FM30 has been designed to withstand harsh environments, with all-steel body panels, heavy-duty decks and a powerful, reliable 22kW (30hp) diesel engine combined with excellent torque.
Performance is superb with 4-wheel drive operation as standard in low gear (move into high gear and this automatically disengages to reduce tyre wear), two-range hydrostatic transmission and a unique mid differential system to prevent scalping.
The machine also benefits from good ground clearance enabling the FM30 to perform on uneven ground and navigate curbs and ramps.
The top speed of 22kph (14mph) and road legal spec mean that this machine can conveniently travel from job to job. Plus, tip the cutting decks to the perfect angle for driving up a ramp and you can easily load the FM30 onto a trailer.
The machine is just as manoeuvrable is it is transportable, with rear-wheel steering for tight turning circles enabling cutting right up to and around obstacles. A steering ram guard prevents any damage that might occur when operating the machine at speed over rough ground, and although the FM30 brakes hydrostatically, for outstanding stopping power and even tighter turns the front two wheels also boast independent split wheel brakes. Finally, operator comfort is a major design factor, with high-back seat, armrests, headrests and all controls – including the hydraulic cut height adjustment lever – within easy reach from the driving position.
